Our lovely SD weather has put us a bit behind in our reading. However, we are now in the final section of our book. Please feel free to comment on any of the following OR to share your own opinions, comments, and open-ended questions about our most recent read aloud chapters.
1) How do you feel about Moose's like-hate relationship with Piper. He mentions at one point something to the effect that he didn't think he could "like someone as much as he disliked Piper". What do you think? Why? (provide support)
2) Do you think Piper is being mean or honest about Natalie whenever she has confronted Moose about Natalie in the most recent chapters? Why do you think the way you do? (provide support)
3) How did you feel when Moose's Dad (Cam) finally stood up to Helen (Moose's mom)? How do you think Moose felt?
4) How has Natalie improved? Do you think she'll get into the Esther P. Marinoff the second time around? Why/why not?

i think that 105 and natalie are more than friends. i thaught that piper was going to kiss moose at the front door of her house on the cheek. i think that if moose wants natalie to be happy he has to let her out of her arms and into the konvicts. i know it sounds kreepy but it will help her into the school.
ReplyDeletei think Natalie might but might not get into the school because she can fight the tantrums but at times they control her. her speech is getting better and every now and then he does talk like"a parrot" as Moose calls it. what do you guys think will happen next?

ReplyDeleteI think Piper is being honest about when he confronts Moose about Natalie.I think this because if she didn't care why would she be asking. I think Natalie has improved because she hasnt been really bad about not having her buttons. I think she will get into the Ester P. Marinoff

ReplyDeleteI don't think moose and piper will go out I kind of think that they will be friends with benefits at the end or just kiss a couple of times.
ReplyDeleteNatalie has improved a lot since the last time she went to the Esther P. Marinoff. She actually said in the chapter EYE I want to go outside. That was very surprising to Moose and to me as well. I think that now she has turned 16 I think she will be better at learning at the Esther P. Marinoff. What do you think?
ReplyDeleteI think that Moose is being absolutely ridiculous with Piper. She has him wrapped around her little finger so tight that I think by now he would do pretty much anything if she manipulated him right. She manipulates him by using his protectiveness of Natalie against him. Moose just switches back and forth. Dislike Piper, like Piper, dislike her…
ReplyDeleteI think that Piper is starting to understand about Natalie and how she reacts to things. Hopefully she is sincere when she is helping Moose with Natalie because otherwise that would just be mean. I think that Piper is starting to come around and she really is kind of nice, just with a plotting mind.
Natalie has shaped up a bit but then again she hasn’t because she’s still having those little fits of hers because of 105. And about her buttons too. She might be accepted but i'm not sure yet!
ReplyDeleteI think Moose likes Piper but he doesn’t know, but I also think he doesn’t want to tell her because he’s to worried about Natile and the convict 105. At the birthday party I thought it was funny how Moose’s dad kept bugging Moose about how he had all those girls at the party (Piper, Teresa, and Annie). Also I like how Moose and Piper fight because it always leads to Moose telling her to shut up.
ReplyDeleteI think that moose will like and not hate piper by the end of the book. I think that cam is a really good dad and I think anyone would be lucky to have him. He’s so nice and very friendly. If someone had a bad day, he would cheer them up faster than I can eat a grape. So all in all if I had a dad like that, I would be a very decent person to be around. All of that friendliness would rub off on me.
ReplyDeleteToday was crazy. I can’t believe that Moose let Natalie go to meet Onion (105). I think Natalie would have had a temper tantrum if Moose didn’t let her go see Onion. I thought Piper and Moose were going to kiss when moose walked her home after the party. Do you think that the interview will go well? Why or why not?
ReplyDeletei thought that mooses mom would get mad at him cuz he wasnt back in time for the party. and i agree with tristian that nat is more than just friends with 105. when eeveryone went home it was just piper and moose piper was gettin kinda romantic and thought they were going to kiss. this may not be true but i think that piper will help nat in school to be more her age
ReplyDeleteI agree with sherry on this one because she dose think about him all of the time!!! I think she has a firm grasp of the obvious things in love and a little more but she still dosn't have it all.
ReplyDeleteWhen Moose’s dad finally stood up to the mom, I was really surprised. I didn’t think that would ever happen because the dad always agrees with the mom and goes along with whatever idea she has. I think Moose was probably pretty surprised too, but also kind of relieved. His mom doesn’t pay attention to anyone else’s needs. All she does is obsess over Natalie becoming normal. I think Moose was relieved when his dad talked to his mom about how he needs her.
ReplyDeleteI think Natalie has improved a lot since the beginning of the book. She no longer talks in her robot voice, and she has begun to use pronouns. I think she got better because of not only Mrs. Kelly, but also because of 105. When she goes to visit him, Moose says that she looks normal, so I think he has been a major contributing factor of her improving. I don’t know if she is going to get into the Esther P. Marinoff. It kind of seems like she should with everything that is improving, but it doesn’t seem like the book would have much more of a plot if she did. I wonder if maybe there will be another plot coming up. Maybe it will be something about Al Capone because the book is named after him, but we haven’t really heard very much about his character.
I that it was good for him to finally stand up to Helen, because he would just do whatever she told him to do. Also I think it showed that he cared about what Moose and what he had to say; And now Natalie holding 105’s hand and wanting to see him, what’s going to happen.?

I think Natalie is in a relationship with 105. Like Moose said she doesn't like holding hands, and she was holding hands with him. He also calls her sweetie all the time so it's pretty obvious. Do you think she is? Why or why not?
ReplyDeleteI think having 105 and Natalie meet is a bad thing. You never know he could be a killer and using her disability to breake out. But he could be just trying to help her. I don't know if he would try to break out if he only has 6 months left to go. He probably not want to risk it. I think it is a good thing that Moose is being pertective. You never know what might happen to Natalie. I think it is very creepy that 105 and Natalie were holding hands. Do you think Natalie is pregnant? It is a bizzare question but still you couldof happened.

I think Piper should leave moose and Natalie alone. She propably should not of yold Natalie Happy birthday. It is kind of wierd that Natalie and 105 are holding hands.

Piper is a coniving little girl and she needs to stay out of Natalie and Moose's relationship because she may ruin it. She should also stay in it because she can give advice to Moose about Natalie...

ReplyDeleteI don't think that Onion is in love with Natalie. I just think he likes to meet some one other than the other convicts.
I think that Natalie will get into Ester P. Marinof. I really thought that she was gonna lose it, but Moose did good and calmed her down bey taking her outside for the walk. Then I had no idea where she was going until she went up the west stairs.
I wonder if Natalie is going to flip out over Onion. She might think they are headed out to see him and when they go to the dock to leave Alcatraz, She might scream.

I think the fit from Nat is going to effect the interview. I think she will still make is though. I also don't like how Piper is controling Moose. BUt yet she is letting it happen.
